Deering1

From the diary of Ethelinda Deering Fry (May 12, 1908)

“A school day – a school day – another golden rule day – reading and writing and ‘rithmetic – of course we don’t raise the old nick – grace and I never whisper. We always can lisp, to the teacher good that we study hard as we should when we were seatmates both.

I am a very poor poet and when these words are sung to the right time no one would know it.
